Facing a huge backlog of cases for a long time, certain steps have been taken by the Islamabad High Court to reduce the backlog of cases, especially the old cases. In this regard, a revised policy for fixation of cases was approved vides circular No.31/Reg./IHC dated 06-02-2023 for expeditious disposal of cases. As per the said policy, older cases have been categorized into Oldest Category up to the year, 2010, Older Category (2011-2015) and Old Category (2016-2017). Since the implementation of this policy, 2026 cases from these categories have been disposed of over the past one year and five months, significantly reducing the backlog. Currently, 1351 cases filed up to 2017 remain pending adjudication before the Hon’ble Benches of this Court.

02. In addition to the fixation policy for reducing the backlog of old cases, another effort to reduce the pendency of revenue matters was made by constituting a Special Division Bench specifically for hearing of tax cases.

03. Further, Islamabad High Court remains committed to enhance service delivery for litigants. Several proactive measures have been implemented to achieve this goal, including the digitization and automation of the Islamabad High Court. A complete case record has been digitized. 04. New specialized branches such as the Motion Branch, Implementation Branch, and Identity Section have been established to expedite the processing of motion cases, ensure timely service of notices, and ensure compliance with Court orders, respectively. The introduction of biometric verification in the Identity Section aims to streamline case institution processes while deterring false and frivolous litigation through imposition of costs.

Details: A false, malicious and contemptuous social media campaign (“Malicious Campaign”) is being run against Justice Babar Sattar of Islamabad High Court. As part of the Malicious Campaign the confidential information has been posted and reposted on social media, including travel documents of the Hon’ble Judge, his wife and children, accompanied by untruthful and malignant allegations, and details of his properties provided in his Tax Returns

Details: Recently, in the social media, there are statements attributed to Judges of this Court which have not been made by them. The communication of this false information is deprecated. The general public is cautioned not to believe in such information unless duly verified with the office of the Registrar of this Court.

Details: PRESS RELEASE A section of press has published that the Director General, Health Services, MCI, Islamabad, has sealed the premises of Islamabad District Courts for a period of 10 days, after finding positive COVID-19 cases. It is clarified that the above referred news is incorrect. The Islamabad District Courts are open and working, and they have not been sealed or closed. However, those three (03) courts are sealed whose officers/officials have contracted COVID-19 Coronavirus. The SOPs for prevention from Corona Virus are being followed in the District Courts, Islamabad, as much as possible. Despite all the odds, the courts continue to perform their important duty of dispensation of justice to the public.

It has been wrongly reported in some sections of the press that the Islamabad High Court and District Courts have been closed indefinitely by the Court Administration.

It is clarified that Islamabad Bar Council, Islamabad High Court Bar Association and District Bar Association Islamabad had announced a strike. Therefore in order to avoid inconvenience to the general public and lawyers, the cause lists were cancelled for one day. However the Islamabad High Court and District Courts are fully functional now and carrying out regular court work, to serve the public.

The Honourable Chief Justice and all the Honourable Judges are performing their functions and are present in their respective chambers.

With profound sadness it is informed that the first Chief Justice of this Court, namely Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Aslam passed away today i.e. 20.07.2020. The Hon’ble Chief Justice, Hon’ble Judges and Staff of Islamabad High Court are deeply saddened by the news of this irreparable loss in legal fraternity. We express extreme grief over his untimely demise.We extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family.

2.    The late Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Aslam was an eminent lawyer and a highly respected and renowned pillar of the legal community. His enviable human qualities will always be remembered. He had a distinguished career. He started practice as an Advocate in the year 1973. He was enrolled as an Advocate High Court in the year 1976, and then as an Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan in the year 1982. He had the distinction of being elected as President, Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench Bar Association, Rawalpindi. He had also distinguishly served as the Deputy Attorney General in the year 2001. He also remained as member of Punjab Bar Council.

3.    Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Aslam was elevated as Judge of Lahore High Court in 2003, and later served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was elevated as the first Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court on 7th February, 2008.
